The Gospel, in a nutshell, is this…
It is finished.
Whatever sense of worth or affirmed identity you’re trying to achieve with Life or God or the Universe or the crowd or whatever is… Finished.
It is yours.
Pass.
Not fail.
Based NOT on anything you’ve done for Jesus
but on what Jesus came to do for you
to reveal what God’s posture is towards you
something eternal and unchangeable.
See, the message of our culture is that
YOU CAN WIN.
YOU CAN DO ANYTHING.
YOU’VE GOT THIS.
YOU CAN SUCCEED.
YOU CAN CLIMB TO THE TOP.
But what the Gospel tells us is this…
Because Jesus won for you, you are free to lose.
Because Jesus was strong for you, you are free to be weak.
Because Jesus succeeded for you, you are free to fail.
Because Jesus was extraordinary, you are free to be ordinary.
If this isn’t counter-cultural, I’m not sure what is. Zero advertising campaigns will succeed with this messaging.
But doesn’t something at the base of your soul - something that has been tightened and tensed up for most of your life just…
Release…
Let go…
When you hear this?
It isn’t for everyone. Especially for those who are still trying to #justdoit.
But for the rest of us who have been beaten up by life a little bit…
Yeah. I need to hear this all of the time.
The good Word.
For you.
I let out my breath I didn't realize I was holding when I read this. Thank you for the reminder.
