Breaking the ladder
If we see “gospel” as having to believe that Jesus paid a debt for us and thusly climbed the ladder to God for us, the gospel isn’t anything new. It’s still law. Even if Jesus performed it for us, the law remains. It’s new wine in old wineskins.
A few questions arise here…
Can God so easily be bought off by Jesus?
How can we be sure that Jesus paid enough?
If God has been “paid”, how can we say that God really forgives? If a debt is paid, can we say that it’s been “forgiven”?
Just some theological thoughts to ponder, for now, should you have space for them.
If not, maybe just know that Jesus didn’t climb any ladder.
Jesus snapped the ladder in half.
Grace + Godspeed,
