Christian Freedom

Christian freedom always turns us towards our neighbor, not towards personal righteousness or individual sovereignty.

It’s also true that this Christian freedom only comes after we realize how powerless we are — on an individual level — to become any better (or any worse) than anyone else in the eyes of the divine.

Our righteousness — our worth at its core level — doesn’t come from our best efforts or success. It comes as a pure and unconditional gift.

This gift is one that’s impossible to keep to ourselves because we didn’t earn it. If we didn’t earn it, we have no need to hoard it or guard it.

And so after our inner death (of the false self-righteous ego) and resurrection (in Christ), we turn to our neighbor to see how we can help them.

Imperfectly, yes.
But wholeheartedly so.
