In the Christian way, we give to our neighbor out of a place of deep gratitude. This is steeled by our stark realization that we are owed nothing and have earned nothing elemental to our soul in this life.
It is all a gift.
Each breath.
Each heartbeat.
And even though we constantly squander this gift, God loves us back to Godself through God’s eternally reckless and redeeming love.
In this Christian way, concern for our neighbor is not an expression of a moral crusade (as our hyper-rational culture would have us hold it).
Rather, love for our neighbor comes from a joyous outpouring of our acknowledged gift of grace.
As Ever,
Jonas
