Goin’ fishin’

“Let’s go fishin’ for people,” he said
with a hint of mischief in his eye.
For he knew that His Father is a fisher of people
who uses fish
that swallow people whole -
—reluctant people
like Jonah
and you
and me-
and returns them safely to shore
to be a vessel for the Word
that creates order from chaos
in the hearts of people
and in the history
of our shared life together.
