I’ve found myself wondering this a lot lately as we hunker down…
When will we get back to normal?
Well, I stumbled over a C.S. Lewis quote the other day that pretty much nailed it for me.
He said the following in an address to college students during WWII…
“The war creates no absolutely new situation, it simply aggravates the permanent human situation so that we can no longer ignore it. Human life has always been lived on the edge of a precipice. Human culture has always had to exist under the shadow of something infinitely more important than itself. We are mistaken when we compare war with ‘normal life.’ Life has never been normal.”
Sounds pretty relevant right now during this pandemic, I’d say…
The permanent human situation… On the edge of a precipice… Under the shadow of something infinitely more important than itself...
And he ends it with the 1-2 punch…
Life has never been normal.
Wow… The old sport is right. It’s just that during times of worldwide upheaval, this truth is far more apparent.
The fact that you and I are breathing right now is incredible. I have no idea what’s beating my heart or yours. All I know is that this life, this heartbeat, this very breath…
These are pure gifts.
Grace & Godspeed,
Jonas
Hello was talking to a dear friend today. And we concluded it’s a miracle we are breathing and here. Yes, it is truly a gift! Thank you Jesus. Amen
