Spirituality needs to be more than an individualistic spiritual steroid to aid our performance in life. If our spirituality is based on improving our performance, we will always be compensating for our insufficiencies. It will never be enough. Projection - blame and shame - is soon to follow.
This is why the core of spirituality must be confession.
In the Christian faith, we boldly confess that the self is void of what it most longs for.
Wholeness is not enclosed in a spiritual blob in the center of our souls.
Wholeness is given to us by God when we see that we need communion with the otherness of God and neighbor to really be ourselves.
We are nothing outside of relationship.
The only reason for the inner journey is to turn us outward.
In Joy,

Hi.
I always looked at wholeness as light and shadow, sinner and saint, good and evil. Not that I have a convenient excuse for being a sinner, but rather it's better to see myself forever in need of a Savior, a repentant sinner frequently seeking God's grace and mercy.
