We had a wild storm here in Santa Cruz County that rushed in yesterday and hung out all day (and into the evening) today. We’re staying in this temporary rental home now and I can see the Monterey Bay from my living room window (I know, we’re enjoying the view while we can). Most days, the water is relatively flat here in the Seacliff State Park area. Especially from the somewhat distant view from our house. But today, thanks to our storm surge and 65 MPH winds, I came home from church and stared out at an ocean that was as animated as I’ve ever seen one. Big rolling waves rose and crashed everywhere as far as the eye could see. I was mesmerized by the beauty and ferocity of the water that had taken on a new life.
But the brown pelicans were unphased, doing their thing, crashing into the violent sea at breakneck speed to keep their bellies full.
Who needs television when this is going on outside?

I was thinking about you when I saw the news. Hang in there and stay safe!
