The shackles of separation
True liberation doesn’t come through autonomy or rebellious independence, as the folklore of the great American narrative tells us.
True existential liberation comes from the realization (typically after great suffering followed by unearned love and renewal) that we are deeply connected. Through the cross - through the death of the small-self - we are liberated from the thought that we are separate from God, the created world, and our neighbor.
