I put out a quick survey earlier in the week, and it was so revealing to get all y’alls feedback. Thanks to everyone who chimed in.
I’ll be making small adjustments to this newsletter in the weeks and months ahead, but the first one is this… I’d like to make this Weekly Compendium a little more substantive. Here are a few ideas I have thus far…
Add a weekly prayer (we use these in the Lutheran church and they’re fantastic).
Add some photos from the past week (yes, I’m an avid iPhone photographer - all the photos in this publication are from yours truly).
Add some things I’m into like books, shows, articles, etc.
Every once in a while, I’ll add a longer essay.
We’ll see. I don’t want to get locked into a consistent format yet, so for at least a little while, it’ll be more of a grab-bag. No, you won’t get through everything, but that’s okay. Know there’ll always be more.
On that point, I’ve been thinking about a certain ‘problem’ that we have in our current time which is… How do we handle the endless stream of content that comes at us through our digital devices every day?
I think the answer lies within the last sentence… Content is like a stream (curious how we call it ‘streaming’). All the people you follow online each provide a pretty-much endless stream of content. It’s a futile endeavor to try to drink the whole thing! You’d surely perish if you tried to do that. So here’s what I advise…
Take a seat next to the stream that brings you the most life. Then, take a drink. Maybe then, another one. And when you’re quenched, go do something else. Though you will surely miss some things, the stream will be there when you get back.
I got this concept from the ever-lucid Oliver Burkeman who is my favorite philosopher on all things productivity (he’s the only ‘productivity expert’ I know of who has a graceful approach to the subject - sign up for his newsletter here).
As Ever,
Jonas
