When Were You Saved?
I grew up Roman Catholic, so when I was a kid, we didn’t talk much about ‘being saved’.
But my uncle was/is a more conservative nondenominational Evangelical pastor. He once asked me if I accepted Jesus into my heart. I didn’t know how to respond. He was concerned that I wasn’t ‘saved’.
After our conversation, I didn’t think much of it and went about my life.
It seemed that this whole ‘being saved’ thing was up to me and an emotional decision of mine. When you ask certain folks of his persuasion when they were saved, they’ll tell you the date (and some will even tell you the time) when they made that decision. That’s when they were ‘saved’.
This sounds a whole lot like saving ourselves rather than being saved.
As far as I know, God doesn’t wait for us to make the decision. We weren’t saved by ourselves, but Christ. If you ask some people - particularly in some of the theological circles that I run in - when they were saved, they’ll tell you it was 2,000 years ago on a cross in Golgotha.
I like this answer better...
But I might venture to say it was long before that.
Grace & Godspeed,
Jonas
