Women... You astound us
As I write this, it’s International Women’s Day. So I just want to say a few things about women and Jesus…
Jesus is not Jesus without women.
I could write volumes of books on this point, but I’ll keep it to a couple of short points for now.
As Dr. Luke writes…
Soon afterwards he went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. The twelve were with him, as well as some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their resources.
- Luke 8:1-3
Women were integral to Jesus’s crew. They bankrolled his ministry. They inspired him. He was drawn to women in a wholehearted way.
Jesus saw women. Like, really saw them. And they saw him.
Women were there when he was crucified and when he was raised. Dr. Luke continues…
Moreover, some women of our group astounded us. They were at the tomb early this morning, and when they did not find his body there, they came back and told us that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive.
- Luke 24:22-23
Yes, women, you astound us. You’ve been astounding us forever and I pray that you astound us right now when we need you in today’s world. We need you to steer this ship towards the feminine. We men have made a mess of things. It’s up to you to take the lead.
And don’t do it like us men have. Do it in your way - in a way that only a woman knows how to do it.
Grace & Godspeed,
Jonas
