There’s an impulse within you that wants to conserve1 what is good. It wants to hold onto that which holds you together. It longs for the safety of home and enjoys that old beat-up sweater every time you put it on.
There’s another impulse within you that calls you forward into progression. It begs you to lay down the old stories and things that once served you, but no longer do. It invites you into newness.
Conservative and progressive impulses. This is the creative tension that lives inside us, individually and collectively. Like the positive and negative poles on a magnet, both are essential.
Any system that asks you to pick one over the other needs to be seen for the farce it is.
Maybe this is why we all feel a little... bit... off.
