If someone who calls themself a Christian comes to you and tells you what your fate is after you die (unless you subscribe to this or that way of belief)…
You have my permission to outrightly ignore this person.
This person is acting in opposition to Jesus Christ. Repeatedly in Scripture, Jesus says that the last day will be one of surprises, astonishment, and unexpected reversal.
Christians live in the magnetic tension of being both the enemies of God AND unconditionally beloved children of God. We live as sinner AND saint with a corresponding mix of godly confidence and fear.
Even with religion aside, isn’t this a better way to live? To live with a sense of wonder and to shrug off the steel jacket of pious certainty? Not just about religion but also politics? Parenting? Gardening?1
Aren’t you way more comfortable around people who don’t think they know all the answers?
Yeah… Ignore the doomsdayers and prosalytizers.
They are not of God and they certainly aren’t of Jesus.
Live in the holy magnetic tension of sinner and saint.
As Ever,
Jonas
Don’t you just frikkin’ HATE those know-it-all gardeners? The worst, I tell ya.
Say it again, for those in the back. :)
