Last week, Rory (my 6yo daughter) had a cold. As I was putting her to bed and laying with her as she drifted off to sleep, I said our ritual nighttime prayer. At a certain point, I made the petition...
“I pray that God heals Rory as she sleeps...”
Here was the following dialogue:
Rory: “Dad, God can’t make me better.”
Me (with a confident possibly-soon-to-be-pastor-like tone): “God can do anything, Rory.”
Rory: “God can’t do ANYTHING, Dad... God can’t punch someone in the face.”
Me: “Well, I guess… True, Rory... True.”
Rory: “Let’s just go to sleep, Dad.”
Me (defeated): “Yeah, let’s just go to sleep.”
Rory: “Amen.”
Me: “Amen.”
Sometimes, only a 6-year-old can make you realize that you have no idea what you’re talking about.
And so, tonight, I pray that God doesn’t prove Rory wrong and punch you in the face. (But if God does, let me know so I can prove to Rory that I was right😜👍)
Grace & Godspeed,
Jonas
In your defense, I’m pretty sure God’s punched me in the face a time or two. Metaphorically (though, not Proverbially).
She is correct.
Hilarious. Dah. Everyone knows that. Was looking to see what you were up to and found this story. Hope all is well with you. Loved getting to know you a bit at Spark. Gene & Deedie
