Okay, before I begin… I’m not a politically partisan guy. I see myself as politically fluid. I love nuance and skate all over the socio-political spectrum. So if you see this as partisan political punditry, I’m sorry. But let me see if I have this straight...
The state of Tennessee has no laws (or very light laws) on the books regulating assault rifles (do your own research on that).
Yet they urgently (just a couple of weeks ago) acted to ban drag shows.
[Insert dramatic pause here.]
Meanwhile, another school massacre happened.
I know not many Christians are saying this out loud. But I’ll add my small voice to the record of minority Christian voices...
This absurdity has to stop.
I know that regulation is not the end-all-be-all of this. I know that regulations will not remove the violence in the human heart. But it sure can save human lives. Countless more than banning drag shows.
Now, drag shows don’t sound like my kind of thing. Never been to one. And I can’t see myself attending one (although, who knows - I’ve been persuaded towards way more). Honestly, I’m far too prudish and reserved. I’ve also never met the pre-resurrected Jesus. However, from reading between the lines, I think that he might’ve had a blast at a good-spirited drag show (still does, likely).
I digress. Where was I? Oh, yes…
To quote pastor and theologian,
,A society that tolerates the ongoing slaughter of children in the name of “gun rights” is not a free society but an idolatrous one.
Any definition of freedom at odds with the Good that is God is not freedom but slavery; in fact, the way we talk about freedom is very often the way the Bible describes Sin.1
Well, today, we hung Jesus on the cross again
alongside three children
gunned down in school.
God, bring an end to this absurdity
and though it seems the buffoonery and violence will never end,
bring us to new life on the other side of this.
In Jesus, you have shown us
that you are right there with the kids.
Be with our families,
our kids,
and all of us.
P.S. I will not respond to any comments here and will delete any that are combative. This blog is an arena for my personal musings and if you have any of your own in opposition to this, go to your own online arena to share. I do not have space or time to “discuss” this conversation further. It’s my two cents, period, and I believe it’s the gospel.

Thank you. It is well past time for passion and outrage from all of us. I appreciate your clever comment about Jesus enjoying the occasional drag show. I'm sure that will freak out the MAGA dupes.
Great work as always Jonas. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this.
